Title: Spring into Coffee: 3 Easy At-Home Brewing Recipes + a Fresh Sale!
April 10 2025
As the snow melts and Calgary starts to bloom, there’s no better way to enjoy the changing season than with a fresh cup of coffee. Whether you’re heading out for a stroll along the Bow River, relaxing at the fire pits in University District, or spending a quiet morning on your patio, a perfectly brewed cup can elevate the moment.
We live and work right here in Calgary—actually in the Brentwood/Charleswood area—and love exploring different spots around the city. The University District is just a quick bike ride away for us. We often hit up the park with our kids or warm up by the fire in the Commons. It’s full of great restaurants, friendly faces, and cozy places to enjoy a cup.
And did you know we roast our coffee in SE Calgary? That’s right—we share a commercial roasting space with another local roaster, giving us access to a top-quality setup while keeping our business lean and sustainable.
At Highwood Coffee, we roast our beans fresh up to three times a month, and we offer doorstep delivery throughout Calgary, Cochrane, Okotoks, and Airdrie. We roast only specialty coffee—each batch scoring 84+ on the SCA scale—and we take pride in being a sustainable, local roaster. We use Bullfrog Power, recycle our bags with TerraCycle, and plant trees with One Tree Planted. Now let’s get into the good stuff:
3 Easy Coffee Recipes for Springtime Sipping
1. Single-Cup Pour Over (Hot) Perfect for light to medium roasts like our Tajumulco Guatemala.
You’ll need:
20g whole bean coffee (medium grind)
300g water (just off boil)
Hario V60 or similar pour-over setup
Steps:
Bloom the coffee with 40g water for 30 seconds.
Continue pouring in slow spirals, aiming to finish at 2:30-3:00 minutes.
Sip and enjoy the balanced, floral notes of spring!
2. AeroPress Espresso-Style (Hot) A rich option that brings out the chocolate and caramel notes in our El Triunfo from Chiapas, Mexico.
You’ll need:
17g finely ground coffee
220g water at 93°C
AeroPress and filter
Steps:
Add grounds and water to your AeroPress, stir, and steep for 45 seconds.
Press slowly over 30 seconds.
Enjoy as-is or dilute slightly for an Americano.
3. Iced Cinnamon Maple Cold Brew (Cold) This makes two cups and pairs beautifully with our Mountain Roast.
You’ll need:
40g coarsely ground coffee
500ml cold water
1 tsp maple syrup
A pinch of cinnamon
Ice & milk of choice (optional)
Steps:
Mix coffee and water in a jar and refrigerate for 12-18 hours.
Strain through a paper filter.
Add maple syrup, cinnamon, and ice. Optional: top with milk.
